The Tragically Undercooked Story of Final Fantasy XVI

Good day, everyone, and welcome to the first podcast in Season 2! I am your host K.O. Lynn and this podcast is a means of deconstructing stories from pop culture, noting their strengths and pinpointing their weaknesses via constructive criticism.

This week’s podcast is about Final Fantasy 16. I describe the story as ‘undercooked’ because it had the makings for a great meal: the graphics were great, the voice acting was fantastic, the premise was unique, and the gameplay was fun. However, the story lacks real care. As I will explain in the episode, the world building was lacking and by virtue of it lacking, the story was not as fleshed out as it could’ve been. Because of that lack of detail, much of the world goes unexplained, which clouds the reasons for the characters’ decisions and actions and makes them less organic. This can make a story more difficult to immerse into and create cognitive dissonance between the player and the characters.

Although this episode as defined as the start of Season 2, Season 2 has a currently undefined number of episodes. As of right now, I will be posting a new episode on the 15th of every month. Tune in to hear my thoughts on League of Legend’s Arcane, how faithful the Assassin’s Creed movie is to the game, and much more.
